“Stepping Stones,” unveiled in 2001, is a public art installation located on the campus of Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny, Iowa. The plaza features a 24-foot diameter fountain with over-life-size bronze figure torsos, one of which holds out an electric guitar. The fountain is surrounded by a 12-foot diameter pool with a 24-foot by 8-inch and a 12-foot by 4-inch stainless steel circular tube framing a waterfall. The bronze torsos represent the diverse student body at DMACC, and the electric guitar symbolizes the college's commitment to the arts. The installation also includes three 24” ⅓ life-size figures in a quiet pool standing back to back and looking out toward the future. The plaza is a popular destination for students, faculty, staff, and the public, and it is a testament to the college's commitment to the arts and the success of its students.
