The “Nancy Neafie Memorial” is a life-size bronze sculpture located in Nancy Neafie Park in downtown Burlington, Iowa. This sculpture was commissioned by the City of Burlington in 2000 and is named after the city's first female mayor. The sculpture is not a likeness of Neafie. It depicts a female figure wearing an academic robe and holding a book above her head. Neafie grew up in Burlington and attended Burlington Junior College before earning a degree in journalism from the University of Iowa. She returned to Burlington in 1983 to teach at Southeastern Community College. The Nancy Neafie Memorial is a fitting tribute to Neafie's life and accomplishments. The sculpture is a beautiful and inspiring piece of public art that celebrates Neafie's contributions to the community and her passion for education and learning.
