The "Lou Henry Hoover Memorial" is an over-life-size bronze statue commissioned by the Waterloo Center for the Arts. This realist sculpture captures Lou Henry Hoover seated gracefully in a wicker lawn chair, her hand resting on a globe—a symbol of her global impact and passion for diplomacy. Surrounding her are nine photo metal aluminum collage plaques mounted on seven-foot-tall Indiana limestone columns, each detailing pivotal eras of her remarkable life. From her roots as a Waterloo native to her roles as Sportswoman, Activist, and Philanthropist, these plaques are a detailed portrayal of her multifaceted contributions to American life. Located in Lou Hoover Birthplace Park, Waterloo, Iowa, this public art installation, unveiled in June 2016, is a tribute to her enduring legacy and contributions to society.
