A unique mixed-media project, "Citizen Soldier" stands above an interior entrance of the National Guard Armory in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Unveiled in 2011, this 14-foot-tall, bronze, aluminum, and steel sculpture honors the state's citizen soldiers. The multi-layered design features two soldiers in high relief, representing active duty, with their civilian lives depicted in bas-relief behind them. The background, a water-jet cut composition of Iowa landscapes, cityscapes, and clouds, further emphasizes the connection between military service and civilian life.
