The Dr. Jesse Wasson Memorial, unveiled in 1998 in LaPorte City, Iowa, is a life-size bronze torso commemorating Dr. Jesse Wasson, the founder of the town. Dr. Wasson, who named LaPorte City after his childhood home in LaPorte, Indiana, dedicated his life to the town’s growth and prosperity. Beyond his work as a physician, he played key roles as postmaster, newspaper publisher, editor, mayor, and member of the Iowa Legislature. He also served on the Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors. The memorial honors his contributions to the town and his commitment to its future, symbolizing his vision and service to LaPorte City.
